Maparaju High Camp

Maparaju used to be one of the easiest climbing routes in the region, but owing to melt is almost unrecognizable. We needed snow samples from the summit, but the climbing was far more intense than some of us bargained for. I sat this one out, owing to my limited experience on ice (and altitude kicking my butt ha!), but our climbers jumped a dozen growing crevasses, ascended some pretty technical, near-vertical, hard grey ice sections, and navigated their way through what looked like a sea of raging penitentes
